Izard Weston has wide experience and expertise in all aspects of maritime law advising a wide range of participants in the maritime sector including shipowners, charterers, port operators, salvors, P & I Clubs, harbour authorities and governments.  Our maritime practice includes dry shipping, admiralty, ship arrest, groundings, oil spills, crisis management and regulatory compliance.

The firm has been involved in the aftermath of all major shipping casualties occurring in New Zealand waters over recent decades, including Wahine, Pacific Charger, Dong Won 529, Jody F Millennium, Tai Ping, Kotuku and Rena.

Izard Weston has significant regulatory experience in relation to enforcement action brought under the Maritime Transport Act, Maritime Rules, and the Submarine Cables and Pipelines Protection Act. This is in both prosecution and defence roles.
